Inherit The Wind

Inspired by the Scopes Monkey Trial of the 1920s, this play excerpts large portions of the actual trial, fictionalized by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee in this thought-provoking (and thought-preserving) play about intellectual freedom and the relationship between science and religion.

Inherit the Wind was directed by Cathy Jones and ran February 13-15, 20-22, 2009. The cast featured Amy Downing as Hornbeck, Joe Grady Moore III as Brady, Don York as Drummond, Josh Houston as Cates, Lisa Dollar as Rachel, Tony Greaves as Rev. Brown, and Linda Miller Raff as the Judge. Other cast members included: Ginger & Brad Young, Mary Jane Smith, Rod Machen, Amie & Marillah King, Jordan Dollar, Doug & Deb Keenan, Chris Johnson, Ken Jones, Carter & Stephanie Davis, Jonathan Slocum, McCoy Johnston, Luke Hammett, Mary Bell, and Hansel Moore.

Steel Magnolias

Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling was directed by Cathy Jones and assisted by David McCullars and ran July 31, August 1-2, 7-9, 2009 starring:

Based on the true story of a young woman battling diabetes, this is the hilariously heart-warming tale of six women in a beauty parlor in the 1980s (picture the hairdos!) sharing the joys and pains of life, love and loss.

Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is a book written by Barbara Robinson in 1972 and tells the story of six delinquent children surnamed “Herdman”. They go to church for the first time after being told that the church offers snacks. Despite protests from other church members, the Herdmans are given roles in the Sunday school’s Christmas play, in which they tell the Christmas story in a nonconventional fashion.

Directed by Amy Downing with assistant direction by Ann Pittman, Best Christmas Pageant ran Dec 11-13, 2009 in the First Austin sanctuary. The cast included: Michelle Gold as Mother, David Mines as Father, Linda Miller Raff as Mrs. Armstrong, Ashley Old as Beth, Travis Norris as Charlie, Rose Smiley as Imogene, and Allison Vanderslice as Gladys in addition to Sarah Mines, Clayton Old, Cal Ussery, Hannah Willard, Paige Hemingson, Dane Rice, Caroline Miller, Spencer and Luke Hammett, Ginger Young, Marillah, Matt & Amie King, Alexa Hudson, Maddy, Charlotte, and Kelly Mahmoud, Carter & Stephanie Davis, Jonathan Belcher, Chloe McCullars,
