2013 Season
Almost, Maine
The mystical magic of love is on display under the northern lights. The northernmost reaches of the 48 United States is the setting for this romantic fantasy, a perfect way to entertain your friend or lover for Valentine’s season.
John Cariani’s Almost, Maine is a play composed of nine short vignettes that explore love and loss in a remote, mythical place called Almost, Maine. The New York Times reviewer wrote that it is “A comedy comprising almost a dozen two-character vignettes exploring the sudden thunderclap of love and the scorched earth that sometimes follows. John Cariani’s play will evoke either awww’s or ick’s, depending on your affection for its whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance.”
Almost, Maine was directed by Cathy Jones and ran Feb 1-17, 2013. It starred Sara Burke, Grant Hudson, Derek Jones, and Camille La Tour.
Sunset Limited
Sunset Limited is written by Cormac McCarthy and was directed at TSP by Patrick Torres. On a subway platform in New York City, an ex-con from the South saves the life of an intellectual atheist who wasn’t looking for salvation. Now, the reformed murderer-turned-savior ventures to offer salvation of another kind, bringing the failed suicide victim back to his Harlem apartment for an articulate and moving debate about truth, fiction and belief.
Blood Brothers
Trinity Street Players presented the Austin premiere of Willie Russell’s blockbuster musical, Blood Brothers June 1-24, 2012! (was it really 2012? Why is it in the “2013 Season” section?)
This tuneful, heartwarming, and heartbreaking tale of twins separated at birth whose paths cross again years later in friendship and conflict. The show examines the nature vs. nurture debate as the twins’ different backgrounds take them to opposite ends of the social spectrum. When both twins fall in love with the same girl, the results are intense and deeply moving. The show has been running in London for over 25 years to packed houses and cheering crowds. <<<is this still accurate?
Blood Brothers was directed by Bob Beare with musical direction by David Blackburn, and featured a stellar cast including Ann Pittman, Brandon Myers, David McCullars, Evelyn LaLonde, Jim Lindsay, Katie Kohler, Kirk Kelso, Kirk Miller, Sarah Zeringue, Sheree Bristoll, and Steve Williams.
